Physical Education

Pre - K, Kindergarten & 1st Grades
Students will develop basic movement skills which will form the foundation of an active and productive life. Students will have a general knowledge in a variety of sports and activities. Throwing, catching, balancing, and running are examples. They will understand that participation provides opportunities for collaboration, cooperation, competition, self-expression, communication, stress reduction, and healthy use of leisure time.
 
2nd, 3rd & 4th Grades
Students will continue to develop movement skills through a variety of sports and activities that include football, baseball, basketball and soccer. Students will demonstrate and refine their locomotor, nonlocomotor, and manipulative skills. Students will begin testing on physical fitness and rules of sports games. They will further understand that participation provides opportunities for collaboration, cooperation, competition, self-expression, communication, stress reduction, and healthy use of leisure time.
 
5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Grades
Students will begin competitive play in sports and activities that include baseball, football, soccer, tennis, and basketball, etc. Students will have a thorough understanding of the rules of each sport, basic movement skills of each sport, and proper etiquette in each sport. Students will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness, which they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
 
After School Sports
All students are encouraged to participate in after school sports. St. Paul’s has a policy that all students make the team no matter the level of physical ability. Students who decide to participate in the after school program will play in every game. The sports presently offered at St. Paul’s are volleyball, flag football, cross country, 3rd/4th grade soccer, boys basketball, girls basketball, 5th-8th co-ed soccer, 3rd/4th grade basketball, tennis, and swimming. Please note that the school’s participation in any sport depends on student interest and participation.
